Alisa Smith (she/her/hers) is a passionate advocate for student success. Since joining the University of Nebraska–Lincoln as the Director of Advising for the College of Journalism & Mass Communications in July 2023, she has led a team of advisors in implementing a proactive, relationship-driven approach to student guidance. Under her leadership, the advising team has focused on strengthening connections between advisors and students, advancing student success initiatives, and ensuring CoJMC students stay on track for graduation.
With over two decades of experience in higher education, Alisa brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her role. Prior to joining UNL, she served as the Dean of Student Success at Lourdes University in Sylvania, Ohio. Her tenure at Lourdes also included roles as Director of Retention and Student Success and Director of ARCHES (Academic Readiness through Coaching Habits for Excellence and Success), where she developed and led comprehensive support programs designed to maximize student achievement.
Alisa holds a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from Bowling Green State University and a Master of Education from Lourdes University. Though new to UNL, she has already made a meaningful impact on students at CoJMC, fostering a culture of support and empowerment.
